So, for my "potential business opportunity" I figured I would try something like a Pandora, but for books instead of music. I personally love to read on recreationally, but one of the biggest struggles is often just finding that next good book, especially if you churn through them fairly fast like I do. Once friend recommendations run out, you're often at a loss, and that's assuming you're friends who read have the same taste in books. This would be a system that, like Pandora, feeds you a steady stream of books that are random but at the same time tailored to your preferences. You would simply "seed" the suggestions by inputting a few books and author's that you really loved, and then it would create a feed for you. Each time you read a book on the suggestions, you would rate it in order to provide the system feedback to continue customizing the suggestions to you personally. You could even create multiple feeds, so that you could switch genres or whatever. This would meet the need of book-lovers everywhere.
Questions:
1. Name
2. Year
3. Major
4. How often do you read recreationally?
5. Have you ever felt like you ran out of good books?
6. How do you normally go about finding a new book?
Video:
I apologize for the lack of editing. I'm an entrepreneur not a director.
Reflection:
So, being completely honest, I wasn't really confident in my idea at first, I just needed something to complete the assignment. However, as I progressed through the interviews and realized that my target audience was not only larger than I expected, but could also easily be expanded, I became much more confident that this was at least a feasible start-up idea.
Interviewing was definitely uncomfortable at first, but got easier and more natural as I went along. I will say that enlisting the aid of a peer to help film and work together with took a lot of the pressure away. It would have been noticeably more difficult by myself.
Hello Jacob, your video was really interesting, as well as your idea. I wish I love to read as much as you do so I can read through chapters from my classes textbooks as quickly as possible. It would be a great tool to have, however I don't enjoy it at all. Nevertheless your idea is a great idea, which can easily be a big hit! You should look more into it. One question you could’ve asked was if they enjoy reading more from a tablet or the actual book. Take a look at my post when you get a chance: http://jamalbrown4.blogspot.com/2016/01/customer-interviews-no-1.html
Hey Jacob! I thought your video was really unique. I was so nervous when I made my video that I kept stuttering the first few interviews. I noticed how your interviews progressively got better and I could tell you feel more at ease. I liked the fact that you didn't use any note cards, it seemed a lot more natural that way. However, quick facts on note cards could keep yo more organized with your questions and make you less nervous! That's what I did if you wanted to check it out! http://cindyblogs4u.blogspot.com/2016/01/customer-interviews-no-1.html
