As you can see, I gave away none. Giving away a dollar was way harder than I expected, and I am glad. My assumptions were correct in that I knew a significant amount of people would turn down the dollar out of suspicion. Nobody likes being approached when they have another place or purpose in mind. People were actually way more polite than I expected though, I thought that a few would just ignore me. Everyone at least acknowledged me enough to say no.

Free Money
I walked the street around Marston and Rawlings Hall. I tried to split my approaches between both genders. I simply said "Hi, would you like a dollar?". This was my entire strategy. I expected to give away maybe two dollars.

Hey Jacob! I’m really surprised that you weren’t able to give any of your dollars away. I managed to give away four of the five but that maybe because I used a different strategy than you. I offered a dollar for good luck on midterms and people seemed to respond well to that. However, I think the fact that no one took your dollar really illustrates what this assignment what trying to teach us. Here’s a link to check out my experience: http://cxgoss.blogspot.com/2016/02/free-money.html
ReplyDeleteJacob I agree with your thoughts on suspicion being the main reason as to why people rejected your dollar. Caitlin has a point that the approach you chose is the reason that people might find the scenario suspicious because there is no interaction, you get straight to the point of giving away a dollar.
